Leaders in lightweight lithium technology

We offer Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) and Lithium-based power systems. Lithium costs more up front, but outperforms SLA in most applications and last up to eight times longer, making it more economical in the long run.

8x longer life

Lithium outlasts SLA many times over. That's why Lithium is such a good value in the long run.

1/3 the weight

Lithium is much lighter than SLA—a big plus when pushing a cart, or when it’s time to replace the battery.

Safe & stable

Not all Lithium is the same. We use Lithium Iron Phosphate, proven to be 100% safe and stable.

Choosing your power system

There are no benchwarmers on our team: every system we offer is the best in its class. To find the optimal solution for your application, our expert team will consider a few factors, including capacity, swappable versus fixed systems, battery technology, and where it will be used.

Capacity

power-systems-standalone-2

Higher Capacity Systems

can drive even power- hungry components like PCs and laser printers.

Lower Capacity Systems

power fewer components but are lighter, charge faster, and cost less.

Swappable or Fixed

Swappable Systems

are light, easy to handle and eliminate downtime. (Just swap packs when power runs low.)

Fixed Systems

offer all-day power for even the largest devices, but require downtime to recharge.

Lithium or SLA

Lithium Systems

cost more to purchase, but last up to 8x longer for much lower total cost of ownership.

SLA (Sealed Lead Acid)

requires replacement more frequently, so costs more long-term. Much heavier to lift or push.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a portable power system for industrial carts?

A portable power system is a self-contained battery unit that mounts to a mobile cart or operates as a standalone unit, supplying AC power to connected equipment — such as computers, printers, scanners, and POS terminals — without requiring a wall outlet or extension cord. It enables workers to use fully powered workstations anywhere in a facility.

What is the difference between a swappable and a fixed power system?

A swappable power system uses removable battery packs that can be exchanged for charged units in seconds, eliminating downtime between shifts and supporting 24/7 operations. A fixed power system provides higher capacity for power-hungry devices but requires the cart to be plugged into a standard wall outlet for recharging.

What is the difference between lithium and SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery systems?

Lithium power systems cost more upfront but last up to eight times longer than SLA, weigh roughly one-third as much, and deliver a lower total cost of ownership over the life of the system. SLA systems carry a lower initial purchase price but require more frequent replacement and are significantly heavier to handle.

What is the Newcastle PowerSwap Nucleus®?

The PowerSwap Nucleus® is Newcastle Systems' flagship portable power system, available in Classic (460/920 Wh) and Mini (230 Wh) configurations. It uses swappable lithium iron phosphate battery packs, supports multiple shifts without downtime, and is compact enough for both cart-mounted and standalone use. It is one of the most widely deployed portable power solutions in industrial environments.

What is the PowerSwap Nucleus® Mini?

The PowerSwap Nucleus® Mini is a smaller-footprint version of the Nucleus Classic and offers a 230 Wh battery. It’s designed for lighter power applications where space and weight are priorities. It delivers strong cost-to-performance for equipment setups that don't require the Nucleus Classic's full capacity.

Can Newcastle power systems be used on non-Newcastle carts?

Yes. Newcastle power systems are designed to be adaptable and can be retrofitted onto other industrial carts for applications such as picking, replenishing, and stocking. They are not limited to use with Newcastle-branded equipment.

What type of lithium battery does Newcastle use and is it safe?

Newcastle Systems uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry — a chemistry specifically chosen for its thermal and chemical stability. Unlike other lithium types, Lithium Iron Phosphate does not pose a risk of thermal runaway, making it safe for continuous use in commercial and industrial environments.

How long do Newcastle lithium power systems last?

Newcastle lithium power systems are rated for a 5–7 year battery life depending on the product and usage profile. This compares to significantly shorter replacement cycles for SLA systems, which is a primary driver of lithium's lower total cost of ownership over time.

How do I choose the right power system capacity for my equipment?

Capacity selection depends on the devices' power draw. Higher-capacity systems can support power-hungry components like PCs and laser printers, while lower-capacity systems are sufficient for lighter loads such as tablets, handheld scanners, or laptops. Newcastle's sales team can help specify a system based on your specific equipment list and shift requirements. Contact at sales@newcastlesys.com

Can I charge Nucleus® batteries in bulk?

Yes. Newcastle offers a Multi-Bay Charging Rack designed specifically for the Nucleus® battery family. It provides a space-efficient way to charge and store multiple battery packs simultaneously, making it practical for operations that run multiple shifts or manage a larger fleet of carts.

How do I monitor battery health and runtime on a Newcastle power system?

Newcastle offers two accessories for the Nucleus Classic: a Remote Battery Meter that displays remaining runtime in real time, and a Battery Diagnostic Tool that monitors battery data to ensure optimal performance and reliability over time. Periodic diagnostics help identify cells that are degrading before they impact operations.

Are Newcastle portable power systems safe to use with computers and sensitive electronics?

Yes. Newcastle power systems output clean, stable AC power — unlike generators, which can produce voltage fluctuations harmful to computers, printers, and POS systems. All systems are designed and rated for use with sensitive commercial electronics.

What industries use Newcastle portable power systems?

Newcastle power systems are used across warehouse and distribution center operations, manufacturing and production floors, e-commerce fulfillment, retail environments, healthcare, data centers, and field service applications. Any environment where workers need powered workstations away from fixed electrical infrastructure is a fit.

How long does it take to charge a Newcastle portable power system battery?

Charge times vary by system and battery capacity. The PowerSwap Nucleus® is designed for swappable operation, so charge time is less critical to uptime — a depleted pack can be swapped out in seconds while a fresh one takes over. For fixed systems, charging typically occurs during scheduled downtime such as breaks or shift changes. Newcastle's team can provide specific charge-time specs based on the system and configuration under consideration.
